My Favorite Kitchen Toy

My husband walked in the door today from work and said, "Smells like garlic!"

I responded, "It's me.  I bought some new garlic lotion today."
This is how much I love garlic: he actually believed me.

In fact, I was chopping up garlic to make Ariel's delicious avocado pasta.  (Tis the season!)  I might add that it turned out very well, and you should try it at home.

But not without this!

I will shamelessly advertise here for the E-Z-Roll Garlic Peeler Tube.  This thing is masterful.  How many hours of my life did I waste hand-peeling garlic before my father-in-law gave this to me for Christmas?  I think even Christmas has taken on new meaning, thanks to my garlic peeler.

You simply put your clove in one end, give it a few rolls on the counter-top with the palm of your hand, and out it comes the other end, gleaming skinless in the sunlight!

Hallelujah.

  1. Ooooh, shine that divine glow in this garlic lover's eyes, and bless the name of whoever invented it for generations to come! This just became my new favorite and I don't even have one!

A couple years ago, I made some kind of garlic remedy, and spent an ETERNITY peeling thirty cloves of garlic. My past self is almost crying in envy right now. This would also leave me less excuse not to take my daily garlic clove...

  2. My only recommendation is to teach Peter early that it's not a toy! I loved mine, but spent more time hunting for it than it would have taken to laboriously peel the garlic by hand, until it was finally lost for good! You're inspiring me to go get another and keep it up high!

  3. I know I have kitchen toy envy... I used this at Meredith's house once. My life hasn't been the same since the garlic peeler and I were forced to part ways... *sigh*

  4. When Micah and Rachel gave me one of these a couple of years ago, I felt I had died and gone to garlic heaven. We are on our second one now, and use it almost daily (it's the Italian, I guess). We learned from the same man who sold the gizmo to our kids that garlic is best (and easiest to peel) when kept out of the fridge. We now have a ceramic garlic keeper on the counter for the purpose. Not only does garlic keep better out of the fridge, I think it keeps longer.
