ODL Competition Starts Today!

Hey ODL Gang,

It's Andrew. I'm not allowed to be here, technically. We'll count it as a guest post. I saw this last night and thought of you all, whoever you may be. There is always more we can do, nay, must do, to move our bodies beyond their fallen, telestial state. I suggest we (and by we I mean you) start a little competition, similar to the one initiated in the video below. Let the games begin!

(Here's the link to YouTube, for those unable to view on mobile devices.)

    1. It didn't show up on my iPad either. Try this: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lraDNDuFNj8n

  2. This was funny, Andrew. Worms' souls... Fear helps you metabolize... Hahaha.

Not as dramatic as swallowing the southeastern winds, but there are some crazy, daring adventures in my kitchen. I made my own fermented fish sauce once! I think it will last through the Millennium.

    1. The video still won't work for me, even typing in the URL. But I feel making ones own fermented fish sauce trumps just about anything. Would someone be willing to email me the link? Sorry to be troublesome!!

  3. Ok, Nonie emailed me the link. Andrew, that is hilarious! Joe and I laughed so hard watching that this morning.

I still think Nonie wins with the fish sauce.... Though, um, I do drink four raw egg yolks for breakfast every morning. And I've gotten some pretty funny faces from people I offer beet kvass. I think it's delicious... ;)

  4. Ha ha! Great find Andrew. I liked:
"I bet you've never tried this. It's dark chocolate that's so dark it's made from 10% cacoa..."
"Ha ha that's a terrible percent."
"And 90% the dirt the beans were grown in."
    "You twisted witch."

I don't know many that could top fermented fish sauce, raw egg yolks, and beet kvass. Nonie and Melissa will be hard to outcompete in this arena! In Korea I ate live octopus. It was...very fresh. I don't know that I'll be incorporating it into my weekly meal plan though!

  5. It is a great clip--actually, Studio C is worth watching generally. It's a BYU TV series based off the Divine Comedy club they have there. Think of it as a squeaky clean SNL. We watch it while doing dishes together on the iPad. You can get it on YouTube or the BYU TV app.

Let's see, how can I compete? I had s'mores when we went camping last night, double-stacked . . . I had the new Reese's ice cream bar two days ago (btw, Skones, if you don't want to promote Reese's anymore with your shirt, I'll have it) . . . hmmmm . . . I don't think I can compete. And I don't know what a kvass is, but it sounds illegal, or at least controversial.

    Ariel?

  6. Man, you girls totally have me beat right now. Starting to ferment... but haven't gotten to fermented fish sauce yet. That will be awhile, I think. We do eat a lot of stuff raw or very lightly cooked that would make most people gawk.

    Peter licks mountains.

  7. I drink my cayenne pepper drink--that's about all I got. But Ben licked a lizard we were lizard-sitting last week. And he rubbed mushrooms in his hair on a hike yesterday.

  8. Oh my word, you guys -- I'm dying here! This is too funny. I'd say live octopus counts, and is in the running for first with fish sauce. And licking lizards... Ben won my heart.

  9. Hahaha that was so hilarious. I licked a mountain yesterday.

    1. That was very funny. Stephen and I also had a good laugh at that. I had a cold soup for dinner at Francks tonight, another birthday celebration for Steve, that was mixture of raspberry and sun dried tomatoes; very flavorful, if not weird enough. And a meatloaf with a watermelon emulsion, which also contained pickled watermelon. It was gorgeous, wish I was smart enough to put the picture up here. I'll send it from my iPad.

And for dessert, Stephen and I are now going out and lick Mount Olympus, right up the street.
