Brian Kershisnik's "Nativity"

Brian Kershisnik's Nativity

My sister sent me this video of Brian Kershisnik (my favorite modern painter) talking informally to a group of children. I thought it was really wonderful and insightful. I appreciated the new perspective on this oft recited story, and I hope you can get something out of it too.

  1. We have this Nativity painting by Kershisnik and he is one of my favorite artists too. I loved this interview and the painting means even more to me now! You have good taste ;)

  2. Last winter I bought this print (and one for Nonie, since I had her name for Christmas) and put it up on my wall. I looked at it many times as I paced back and forth during labor. I love everything it represents! It empowered me during my labor with Peter. I especially love the perspective into Joseph's role, which Kershisnik understands (his wife did all her births at home).

Thanks for this video Ariel! A treasure.

  3. I loved this video! I found it so touching how Kershisnik got emotional as he spoke about this piece. It is beautiful.

  4. This is one of my favorite Kershisnik paintings, and there are so many good ones! We just saw one of his exhibits in St. George. I like how he doesn't know how many angels are in the painting and gets a different count every time. I'm sure we don't know who attends the births of our babies either.

  5. I can't believe I missed commenting on this, Ariel! I love this painting, too. It's on my bedroom wall, and offered me a great deal of strength in my last labor. Since then, as I've put my baby to sleep over and over, I have looked at every angel's face in the painting so much, I feel I know them personally. Thank you for sharing this little interview.
