Utah and Candy

Did any of you see the headline today about Utah and candy consumption? Or as one news source put it, "Utah Leads Nation in Candy Use". I thought that was a great way to word this. I don't know what bothered me more, the fact that this is true, or the quotes from the good professor. Essentially we, (Mormons, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LDS, what ever we call ourselves), are trading one vice for another. I am not exempt, but I do severely limit how often I imbibe.

What are your thoughts on this?

  1. Interesting. There does seem to be so much candy available everywhere we go. I don't buy candy and rarely bake with sugar, but it still seems like we eat plenty of it. My husband buys it, it's at church, at school, at family parties, on camping trips, at local businesses--it's hard to get away from! And I think it really is a result of trading one vice for another. Instead of going to a bar with friends we go out for ice cream, rather than drinking a glass of wine we eat brownies, instead of packing PBR on a camping trip we take cookies and twizzlers. So, yes! We can do better!

    1. Yes, it is everywhere. I'm more than a little appalled at the amount we find at church, considering the word of wisdom and everything. Our primary was giving candy to each child on a weekly basis at the beginning of the year. The wine would be the healthier choice. (Did I just type that out loud? Awkward...)
